about the project

Be it eyewitness videos, online documentaries or campaign films – our research project “Video Activism 2.0” is dedicated to a new form of political video activism on the Web 2.0 between online and offline publics, Social Media and Social Movements. Our aim is to systematically map and analyse the wide array of styles and practices common to online video activism and to develop a typology of its aesthetic and rhetorical strategies as well as its socio-cultural and media environments.

This website documents some of our work and offers short analyses of selected video clips (“Videos in Close Up”) as well as video interviews with activists (“Activist Accounts”).

The project is made possible by the collaboration between Prof. Dr Jens Eder (Film University Babelsberg Konrad Wolf), Prof. Dr Britta Hartmann (University of Bonn) and Dr Chris Tedjasukmana (Freie Universität Berlin). It is funded by the Volkswagen Foundation.
